| For most people, the begining of the Civil War was at Harper's Ferry in 1859. Here Kansas radical, John Brown attempted to incite the blacks in the South to revolt and kill their masters. Here he was captured by U. S. Marines under the command of several Southern officers, LTC Robert E. Lee and Capt. J.E.B. Stuart. | |||||||||||||

on a railroad trestle before killing a station attendant. 2 to 6 John Brown's Fort. Not much room in here. John Brown was tried and convicted, and sentenced to be executed. Among those who witnessed the execution were Robert E. Lee, J.E.B. Stuart, Thomas J. (Later "Stonewall") Jackson, and an actor who borrowed the uniform of the Richmond Militia, a man by the name of John Wilkes Booth. |
